- Coca-Cola. Pour a can of Coke in the toilet, let sit for one hour, and then brush and flush. The citric acid, phosphoric acid, and ascorbic acid in the Coke clean the vitreous china of the toilet bowl.
- Country Time Lemonade. To clean a toilet bowl, pour in two tablespoons of Country Time Lemonade powdered mix. Let it stand for one hours. Brush and flush. The citric acid removes stains from porcelain and vitreous china.
- Efferdent. Drop two Efferdent dentrue cleansing tablets into the toilet, close the lid, and let it sit overnight. In the morning, brush and flush.
- Gatorade. Pour two cups of Gatorade into the toilet bowl, let sit for one hour, then brush and flush clean. The citric acid in Gatorade removes stains from vitreous china.
- Heinz White Vinegar. To clean hard-water stains from a toilet bowl, shut off the water to the toilet tank, and flush until you empty all the water from the toilet bowl. Place a hand towel or washcloth in the bowl to cover the hard-water stains, and then saturate the cloth with Heinz White Vinegar. Let sit overnight, and wipe any remaining residue clean with an abrasive sponge. Repeat if necessary. The acetic acid in the vinegar dissolves hard-water stains.
- Kool-Aid. To clean stains and rust from a toilet bowl, empty a packet of Lemon Kool-Aid in the toilet, close the lid, and let it sit overnight. In the morning, brush and flush. The citric acid in the Kool-Aid cleans the toilet bowl, oxidizing the rust. Soldiers in the military frequently use "bug juice" (generic Kool-Aid) to clean toilets and tank parts.
- McCormick Cream of Tartar. Sprinkle two or three tablespoons McCormick Cream of Tartar on the stains in the toilet, brush, and flush.
- Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. To remove a mineral ring from a toilet bowl, gently rub the stains with a damp Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.
- ReaLemon Lemon Juice and 20 Mule Team Borax. To clean stains from a toilet, make a paste from ReaLemon Lemon Juice and 20 Mule Team Borax, apply the paste to the stains, and let sit for fifteen minutes. Brush and flush.
- Tang. To clean stains and rust from a toilet bowl, dissolve three tablespoons Tang in the toilet, close the lid, and let it sit overnight. In the morning, brush and flush. The citric acid in the Tang cleans the toilet bowl, oxidizing the rust.
- Turtle Wax. To prevent condensation from forming on the outside of the toilet tank, shut off the water to the toilet, flush until you empty all the water form the toilet tank, and apply a coat of Turtle Wax to the inside of the tank.
- 20 Mule Team Borax. Pour one cup 20 Mule Team Borax in the toilet bowl, let sit overnight, and in the morning, simply flush the toilet.
- 20 Mule Team Borax and Heinz White Vinegar. To clean stains from a toilet bowl, shut off the water to the toilet tank, and flush until you empty all the water from the toilet bowl. Pour one cup Heinz White Vinegar over the stain, and then sprinkle one cup 20 Mule Team Borax over the vinegar. Let it sit for two hours, and then brush and flush.
